Description
Acokanthera spectabilis Benth. published illustration from Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Uncoloured lithograph. Native of the Western districts of South Africa from Albany to Port Natal, on woody sand-hills near the sea. Barber writes that the seeds are intensely bitter and the whole plant is considered by native people to be a deadly poisonous one. It was introduced in England by Mr B.S. Williams and exhibited by him in 1872. This specimen flowered at Kew on February 1878.
