"Hoffman(n) Bang" is probably the Danish algaeologist Niels Hofman (Bang) (1776-1855), who never traveled outside Europe, but may have corresponded with C.A. Agardh, who likewise was algaeologist. C.A. Agardh was furthermore acquainted with P.O. Swartz. It is thus not unlikely to think that P.O. Swartz received the fern from C.A. Agardh, who received it from N. Hofman (Bang) (maybe in 1814?). J.G. Agardh wrote an account on Pteridophytes ("Recensio Specierum Generis Pteridis", 1839), and it is thus likely that "Agardh fil." refer to J.G. Agardh. Who the collector was is however unknown.]
