HS:Vol.2: 123. Sloane ref: Voy. Jamaica. 1: 145. t. 94, f. 2. & Cat. pl. Jamaica: 50. Referring to D. Solander's determination: 'tenuior Linn.' has been crossed out and 'sarmentosa Sz.' substituted by Swartz. The Swartz determination is strange because Swartz, Prodr. 30. 1788, published the binomial 'Diodia sarmentosa' not 'Spermacoce sarmentosa'. Swartz did not cite any ref. or exsicc. with this description and no collection of his has been found at the BM (see Howard, 1985: 405). In the event that no Swartz specimen is located, H. S. 2: 123 could serve as a neotype. (C. D. Adams).
