Notes
This species has often been confused with Bulbophyllum oreonastes Rchb.f.The latter species is much less common in the Flora Zambesiaca area, and may be distinguished by its differently shaped lip and by the flowers standing clear of the rhachis (in B. fuscum they appear to be sunk within it).Var. fuscum occurs in W Africa, the Central African Republic, Zaire and Angola. It has a lip with distinct, usually denticulate, lateral lobes near it’s base (the lip in var. melinostachyum lacks lateral lobes).
