Information
Style-bases and upper part of the ovary not swollen, giving a narrow, firm beak; inner perianth segments of female flowers commonly obtuse; longer bracteoles of the female flowers mostly 1–1.5 times as long as the perianth.
Range
S3 probably of Central American origin, now widespread in the tropics and subtropics.

SOMALIA Paoli 432.
Notes
Subsp. hybridus, with style-bases and upper part of the ovary swollen, giving an inflated beak, inner perianth segments of the female flowers commonly acute, and with longer bracteoles of the female flowers about twice as long as the perianth, may occur in Somalia as well, but has not yet been correctly recorded.
