Prostrate or semiprostrate perennial herb; stems usually trailing along the ground, glandular-pubescent and with long weak or subsetose hairs. Leaf-lamina up to 4 (6) cm. in diam., suborbicular in outline, from very shallowly 3–5-lobed or 5-angular to 3–5-palmatipartite, stellate-pubescent above, stellate-tomentose beneath, apex subacute or somewhat rounded, margin crenate or subserrate, base cordate; petiole up to 5 cm. long, pubescent; stipules 3–4 mm. long, filiform, very caducous. Flowers up to 8 cm. in diam., yellow (rarely white) with reddish-purple centre, solitary, axillary; peduncle up to 10 cm. long, with a somewhat glandular pubescence, articulated near the apex. Epicalyx of 7–9 bracts; bracts 2·5 mm. long, filiform to very narrowly linear. Calyx 10–20 mm. long, densely pubescent, and stellate-setulose; lobes elongate-triangular, acute, joined at the base for up to 4–5 mm. Petals 3–5 × 1·5–2·5 cm., narrowly obliquely obovate, pubescent outside where not overlapping, glabrous inside. Staminal tube 7–18 mm. long; free parts of filaments up to 0·5 mm. long. Style-branches 2–5 mm. long. Capsule 12 mm. in diam., subglobose, densely stellate-pubescent; margins of valves setose. Seeds 2 × 2 mm., subreniform, sparsely minutely lepidote.
