Strongly aromatic shrub or tree to 8 m tall, often thicket-forming, sometimes with stilt roots, basal “trunk” to 10 cm in diameter; young stems glabrous (rarely with scattered long curly many-celled broad hairs). Leaves with petiole of stem-leaves 5–20(–25) cm long; lamina of stem-leaves broadly cordiform-reniform, largest 11–26(–33)≈10–27(–32) cm, upwards smaller and narrower, apex triangular, base cordate or deeply so (upper subcordate to truncate) with sinus 1–3.5 cm deep, margin grossly doubly dentate with large triangular teeth 2–5 cm long, glabrous or with scattered long curly many-celled broad hairs, usually only along veins. Inflorescence narrowly racemiform, (5–)10–30(–40) cm long; branches erect, 0.5–2.5 cm long near base, shorter upwards (rarely with two longer lateral branches from basal nodes); flowers in 3-flowered cymes; bracts caducous, greenish white, boat-like and clasping partial inflorescences, up to 4.5≈3.5 cm; branches and bracts glabrous to densely glandular-pubescent; pedicels to 5(–10) mm long. Calyx glandular-pubescent with broad glossy hairs, 19–38(–55 in fruit) mm long along dorsal lobe which is 1–2 mm longer than the others; lobes linear to oblanceolate, 1–5(–7) mm wide, acute or subacute. Corolla white to cream with dark brown throat, lower lip yellow with white hairs, 30–41 mm long, cylindric tube 8–13 mm, throat 8–12 mm, dorsal and lateral lobes broadly elliptic, 8–11≈8–12 mm, lower lip oblong 14–17≈8–10 mm, dorsal lobes without ring of stiff hairs and lateral only with a few; papillate area on lower lip ovate, 10–13 mm long, covering almost the whole of the lobe. Free part of filaments 3–5 mm long and free fused part similar length, hairy; anthers 5–7 mm long, spur ± 1 mm long. Stigma 2–3 mm long, dorsal lobe absent; ovary hairy near apex. Capsule 35–50 mm long, glabrous but for a few hairs near apex. Seed 7–9≈6–8 mm.
