Description
[Letter translated from Latin] Sodiro recently received Baker's most welcome letter dated 28 Oct, for which he sends thanks. He especially rejoices that the little collection of Quito ferns he sent has reached Baker undamaged and greatly values the observations on the nomenclature of certain species which Baker has kindly sent. He queries whether the remaining species, which Baker did not mention, can be considered as genuine. He wonders especially about the Nephrodiums and Acrostichums[?] described by himself as new species. Sodiro hopes that many other doubts can be resolved from the specimens of Baker's collection, but this collection has not yet reached him. Sodiro has many species and not a few genera of the Compositae which are either uncertain or completely unknown. Since he struggles both with a shortage of books and completely lacks herbaria older than his own it is scarcely to be hoped that he can use them in the future, or at any rate soon, for the purpose of putting together a publication. He has found, from FLORA BRASILIENSIS, that Baker is also skilled in the study of this family and therefore offers them all freely to Baker so that any he can publish any new things that he discovers. Sodiro concludes by noting that if Baker thinks he can be of use in any other respect he should be sure to let him know. Annotated. Page 1 of 2.
