Description
Duthie thanks Thiselton-Dyer for his letters providing the names of the plants he had sent. He hopes by the time this letter arrives, that Thiselton-Dyer will have received the seeds and Kidarkanta plants. As to pine seed and Deodar et cetera, he has been waiting to receive them from the Forest Department who have undertaken to collect for them [the Garden]. It is getting late [in the season] and they say there is very little to be had. Duthie also sends thanks for the catalogue of seed and since writing has received a small packet of C. speciosa, which he hopes will succeed. It appears to be a more valuable kind. Duthie thinks he mentioned that he was contemplating a trip this year. He would like to know if RBG Kew is supposed to contain complete sets of Royle's and Falconer's plants. If not, he has been thinking it might be worthwhile selecting some as a loan collection for the use of the FLORA OF BRITISH INDIA authors. Sir Joseph [Hooker's] remark under Potentilla purpurea in the FLORA OF BRITISH INDIA, II, lead Duthie to suppose that it would be advisable, as there are specimens of that plant at Saharanpur with locality Kidarkanta, given by Royle. Duthie asks Thiselton-Dyer to order him a couple of the GENERA PLANTARTUM, volume III, for which he will send a cheque on hearing the price. He concludes with kind regards to Sir Joseph Hooker. Duthie asks Thiselton-Dyer to forward the enclosed to Dr Aitchison. Page 1 of 3.
