Description
Dalzell thanks Hooker for his kind letter and for all the trouble he has taken on behalf of Mrs Dalzell. Dalzell was aware of the generous gift from the Royal Society and felt sure Hooker was the source of it. He is also very grateful to Hooker for disposing of the herbarium to such advantage, when Mrs Dalzell had intended nothing more than to gift it to RBG Kew. Dalzell has forwarded his memorial to the Secretary of State with a letter to Sir Louis Mallet, a copy of which he has enclosed [see folio 154/47]. Sir Louis Mallet was a near connection of the late Herman Merrivale who married a first cousin of Mrs Dalzell, formerly Miss Duthie, and is a niece of the Dean of Sudborough. Dalzell wonders if this will carry any weight with Sir Louis, who is very influential. Pages 1 and 4 of 4.
