Description

Price is sending off by train today a box addressed to RBG Kew containing a small collection of orchids he collected in Formosa [Taiwan] in 1912. He wishes to present these to RBG Kew. With reference to Vanilla griffithii var formosana, this plant was found growing up the trunk of Libocedrus decurrens to a considerable height. He has consequently always grown it on bark and it has done quite well under that treatment but has never flowered. With reference to the lily, this is undoubtedly a variety of L.[Lilium] philippinense and he has recently heard from Mr Grove that he believes Wilson has named it L. philippinense var formosanum. The plants sent have all been grown from seed sown early in 1920 and three of them have flowered recently. They do not seem to reach a height greater than one foot with him.
