Description
Bourne hopes Prain, his wife and son are all well as they have heard nothing from him for a long time. In a letter she wrote to Mrs Prain in January she thinks she sent a message to Prain regarding the plants they left behind at RBG Kew in Mr Drummond's care. They are keen to hear what Drummond has made of the interesting ones. She is sending Prain a few specimens of Ecbolium linneanum found at the Seven Pagodas in the Chingleput [Chengalpattu] district on the coast. She had a scrap brought from there in December and asked Captain Duff to bring her some when she heard a party from Government House were to visit there in January. The lighthouse keeper there takes an interest in plants and he sent on several plants of the species via Captain Duff, which she planted. Bourne does not know if these are the type or varieties but would be glad of any information. Mr Drummond said he would send her a list of things he wanted her to look out for but this has not come. She notes that there seems nothing of interest at the moment except a tree in a garden. The owner of the garden does not know if it is introduced or not and they cannot spot it. She wonders if it might be an Elaeocarpus. Page contains note in another hand stating the name Phytolacca dioica. If Drummond is still at RBG Kew, Bourne asks if Prain will kindly ask him to look up the unmounted specimen of Bignoniaceae labelled 'Sir Frederick Price's Bignonia', as Sir Frederick is keen to know it. She would also like the name of his terracotta coloured Impatiens if it has been determined; it has never yet developed ripe fruits. As a postscript she asks if they have bought a motor car yet. Annotated. Pages 1 and 3 of 3.
