Description
Letter advising of forthcoming delivery of a Wardian case containing pitcher plants, Nepenthes pervillei, a few specimens of the ground orchid Angraecum eburneum, a couple of ‘locally called lace plants Lycopodium phlegmaria and L. squarrosum ‘which I committed to the kind care of Captain Cato.’ Griffiths also asks after the first Wardian case of pitcher plants sent via Captain Kennedy of the S. S. Britannia, he mentions that it is not the best time for plants to travel because of the frost and writes that replacements could be sent ‘at a more congenial season.’ Griffiths mentions that Mr. Scott from Mauritius is over to report on the suitability of the Capucin site for a botanical station. He also mentions eight bundles of vanilla beans addressed to Mr. H. J. Jourdain, C. M. S, the representative of Mauritius and Seychelles at the Imperial Institute which he sent via the S. S. Scotia which he asked Jourdain to forward some to Dyer. Page 1 of 4.
