Description
Kirk firstly congratulates Dyer on his appointment as Director of Kew Gardens, and states his disgust that '...they tried to hamper you with a useless assistant'. Kirk describes the difficulty of getting any worthwhile porcelain from the region, particularly the celadon porcelain from the 12th century [previously mentioned in a letter to Sir Joseph Hooker, see folios 495-496]. Kirk writes that he has a collection of about 30 pieces. Kirk also sends seeds and fruit of a banana which he would like identified. He previously thought it was Musa ensete but now is not sure whether it is an Australian variety and describes some of the features of the plant to aid identification. Finally Kirk writes that he is hoping to go on leave soon, and will not stay for another hot season. Pages 10 and 11 of 11.
