Description
Letter asking for seeds and cuttings from Kew to take to a mission station in Eastern Equatorial Africa. In particular he would like seeds of coffee and cocoa and cuttings of vine, fig and fruit trees. He describes the position of the station at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and the conditions. Included with the letter are two papers which he intends to explain more about the Misison. Folio 130 is a pamphlet asking for donations to provide machinery that the natives can use, such as ‘wood-working appliances’ and ‘oil pressing appliances’. Folio 131 is another pamphlet asking for donations, but describing in more detail the mission station, which is called ‘Mahoo’, and the inhabitants – 30 boys between 8 and 18 who have been sent from 9 different tribes for instruction. [This forms part of a series of letters between Steggall and Kew regarding seeds for ‘Mahoo’, see folio numbers 129-133.] Page 2 of 8.
