Description
Playfair writes to Hooker asking him to explain a name which Hooker wrote to Playfair but Playfair could not read. The name is stuck to the top of page 1. Playfair asks Hooker if he meant the genus Quercus and if so, Playfair lists a number of species including pseudo-suber, suber, mirbeckii, ilex and castaneifolia. Playfair asks Hooker to explain his request further. Playfair tells Hooker that he has written to a friend asking for Cork acorns and also to the Consul at Oran for Alpha seeds and will forward them as soon as he gets them. Playfair comments on a person called Riviera who he finds 'intensely disagreeable'. Playfair asks, if it is possible, to send him some common Narcissus. Playfair informs Hooker that he is the only possessor of Lily of the Valley in Algeria and tells Hooker that the palm seeds still have not arrived. Pages 1 and 4 of 7.
