Description
A desert plant recorded as far south as 20°N and which may be found just within the northern limit of the Region, 18°N.Moorish women of Mauritania sun-dry the whole plant, reduce it to powder which is added to milk and drunk. This is considered a good fattening food (2). It is also considered to give good pasturage (2). However in the Hoggar camels refuse the plant, and goats and sheep rarely take it (1).In the Hoggar dried or powdered leaves are added to food as a diuretic for treating rheumatism, or to cause sweating (1). In Mauritania grilled leaves are cooked into food for kidney and back ailments and to give virility to men (2).
