Notes
Herb to 1.3 m high. Stems green to purple with cobwebby white hairs. Leaves dark green above, paler below, hairy on both surfaces but with more hairs below. Spreading pale yellow involucral bracts that close up at night but reopen during the day. Plants in this area only have involucral bracts of one colour, either pale yellow (as here), golden or white (single plant with orange bracts also seen but not collected). Landform: plateau on edge of trail. Substrate: basalt. Soil: chocolate brown krasnozem. Eucalyptus pauciflora / Eucalyptus dalrympleana open forest, with nearby unsprayed areas dominated by Cytisus scoparius, growing with Poa siberiana s.lat., Senecio pinnatifolius var. serratus, Xerochrysum bracteatum s.lat. with golden involucral bracts, Xerochrysum bracteatum s.lat. with white bracts, Deyeuxia monticola var. monticola, Pratia penduculata, Hypochaeris radicata, Acaena novae-zelandiae, Trifolium repens, Senecio distalibobatus, Deyeuxia gunniana, Leptinella filicula and other native grasses and herbs. locally frequent (>100 plants). Most treed areas on the Tops have Xerochrysum plants with involucral bracts of only one colour, either white or golden. Silica gel material with J.J. Bruhl (NE).
