Biography
British gardener who was trained at Kew (1875). He was later appointed Curator of the Calcutta Botanic Garden (1879) and subsequently Deputy Superintendent of the Cinchona Plantation, Bengal (1897-1910). Pantling is primarily known as a collector of orchids of which many hundreds are at BM. The genus Pantlingia Prain was named in his honour.
