Biography
British naturalist from Twickenham who owned a taxidermist's shop at Ramsgate, Kent. He was employed by the British Museum (Natural History) in the Zoology Department (1895-1928) as an Articulator, and subsequently as curator of the bryophyte collection (1928-1947). He was also Curator of the South London Botanical lnstitute (1919), where his personal herbarium was donated. Sherrin published on British species of the genus Sphagnum and was elected President of the British Bryological Society (1945-1947). Material of Sphagnum deposited at K (1928) was later transferred from to BM (c. 1961) under the terms of the Morton Agreement.
