Biography
German botanist from Billwärder who travelled to Norway (1828) with J.G. von Kurr under contract by the Botanischer Reiseverein. The form of his surname 'Huebener' is adopted by Brummitt and Powell as a basis for his standard citation as a plant name authority but specimens are generally identified with the form 'Hübener'. His original herbarium at LZ was destroyed during the Second World War. Some 105 specimens of European Hepaticae were deposited at K (1878) but later transferred to BM (c. 1961) under the terms of the Morton Agreement.
