Biography
Scottish horticulturalist and botanist from Newdeer, Aberdeenshire. He was employed as a gardener by the Royal Horticultural Society (1880-1882) before moving to Kew (1882-1885). Fraser worked at the Jodrell Laboratory, Kew (1885-1886, 1909-1910) with a break while working as an assistant editor (1887-1897) and latterly editor (1897-1909) of the Gardening World horticultural magazine. Fraser's original herbarium was donated to K in 1935, however, some of this British material may have been transferred to BM under the terms of the Morton Agreement in 1961. Often confused with John Fraser (1750-1811) and other similarly named botanists and horticulturists.
