Biography
British lawyer from Newbury, Berkshire, who became Colonial Secretary of Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania) (1842-1851). He was Secretary of the Linnean Society (1824-1832); specimens deposited with the society (LINN) were purchased by BM (1963). The genus Bichenia D. Don was named in his honour. His collection of books formed the founding collections of the Tasmanian Public Library.
