Biography
British army officer, forester and naturalist in India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) who published on Indian trees and pteridophyes. In addition to plants he also made an important collection of mollusca with his son-in-law G.C. Leman. Col. Beddome donated his herbarium of some 10,000 specimens to BM (1885). The genera Beddomea Hook f. in the Meliaceae and the bryophyte Beddomiella Dixon (= Wilsoniella Müll. Hal.) were dedicated to him.
