Biography
Irish forester and botanist from Tranore, County Waterford who trained at the University of Dublin. He joined the Indian Forest Service (1921) becoming deputy conservator (1924), botanical officer for Assam (1936) and latterly forest botanist at the Forest Research lnstitute, Dehra Dun (1937-1942). Local collectors worked for him but are not acknowledged by name with material ambiguously labelled 'Bor's collector'. Bor moved to England after being appointed Assistant Director of Kew (1948-1959) and became increasingly known as an agrostologist, continuing to publish long after retirement. His Indian herbarium of some 1,200 specimens was donated to K (1936) but some original cryptogams were transferred to BM (c. 1961) under the terms of the Morton Agreement.
