Biography
Tasmanian phycologist. Florence Perrin (née Dawson) married George Perrin in 1907, with whom she shared a love of the bush, skiing and photography. The couple lived in Launceston, farming at Low Head. Enthusiastic bushwalkers and climbers, the peak Perrins Bluff was named after them. Florence was editor of Tasmanian Country Woman and carried out much work in the community. She was also a keen seaweed collector and co-authored Seaweeds of South Australia (1936-1947) with her good friend, A.H.S. Lucas. Lucas visited the Perrins often. Together he and Florence explored Lord Howe and Low Islands in Queensland. In his old age, Lucas called Perrin 'eyes' when collecting. Perrin was also an active member of the Launceston Horticultural Society and collected nearly every orchid native to Tasmania.
