Biography
American mycologist from Pennsylvania. Benjamin M. Everhart was based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he owned a very successful general store and became one of the wealthiest men in that town. He was famous for his long collaboration with Job Bicknell Ellis which first began in 1880. From this time onwards the pair published numerous descriptions of new fungi and several important papers and exsiccatae. Everhart provided Ellis with access to his extensive mycological library and provided funding and collaboration for his two most important publications, the North American Fungi (1881) and North American Pyrenomycetes 1892. The second edition of this former work (New North American Fungi) was co-authored by Everhart. The pair also produced the important exsiccatae "Fungi Columbiani". In recognition of their long-lasting association a fungal genus even bears the name Elletevera Deighton.
