Biography
Austrian botanist at the Vienna Naturhistorisches Museum. Rechinger joined the University Botanical Garden after gaining his PhD in 1893 at the University of Vienna. He moved to the Vienna Naturhistorisches Museum in 1902, where he was curator of the botany department from 1918-1922. In 1905 Rechinger undertook an expedition to the Pacific with his wife, Lily Rechinger-Favarger, during which they collected plants in Samoa, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Rechinger subsequently produced several publications dealing with their findings between 1907 and 1915, including "Plantae novae pacificae" (1907, in Repertorium novarum specierum regni vegetabilis) and Vegetationsbilder aus dem Neu-Guinea-Archipel (1908). Rechinger's son, Karl Heinz Rechinger, went on to become director of the Naturhistorisches Museum in Vienna.
