Biography
Japanese botanist. After graduating from the University of Kyoto in 1930, Jisabro Ohwi went on to join the university staff as a lecturer in 1936. He left Kyoto in 1943 to spend two years working at Buitenzorg Herbarium in Java, after which he was based at the Tokyo Science Museum. Ohwi is especially known for his Flora of Japan (in English) (1965), the first modern account of the complete vascular flora of the country in English. About 15 plant species are named after Ohwi, including Carex ohwii Masam. and Cyperus ohwii Küh.
