Biography
South African botanist. Born in Germiston, Gauteng, Priscilla Burgoyne is a Principal Agricultural Scientist with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), specializing in succulent plants. Before joining SANBI in 1992, she was a contract researcher at the University of Pretoria, where she earned her MSc in Plant Ecology for a study of the high mountain grasslands of Eastern Transvaal (now Mpumalanga). At SANBI, she curates the families Mesembryanthemaceae, Crassulaceae, and Portulacaceae and initiated the Mesembryanthemaceae Mapping Project. To date she has collected approximately 10,400 herbarium specimens, about 1,200 of which are housed at PRU, the rest at PRE. Most of the specimens collected after 2000 were succulents. Away from work, she is a painter and musician, and breeds exotic birds and white dorpers.
