Biography
German botanist. Since 1997, Sigrid Liede-Schumann has been a full professor of systematic botany at the University of Bayreuth. Born in Karlsruhe, she graduated in biochemistry from the University of Tübingen in 1979 and was awarded a PhD twice, in 1988 from the University of Hamburg for her taxonomic research on the genus Erepsia N.E. Br. (Mesembryanthemaceae), and in 1996 from the University of Ulm for a study of the African Cynanchinae (Asclepiadaceae). The Cynanchinae study was based in part on her work as a NATO Research Scholar at Missouri Botanical Garden between 1988 and 1990. Her first academic posting was at Westfallen Wilhelms-Universität. She took a short leave, between January and March 1991, to identify African flora at the Missouri Botanical Garden for the National Cancer Research Institute. Prof Liede-Schumann is on the editorial board of Taxon and Organisms, Diversity and Evolution, and is a member of the American Association of Plant Taxonomists (ASPT), l'Association pour l'Etude Taxonomique de la Flore de l'Afrique Tropicale (AETFAT), the International Organization for Succulent Plant Study (IOS), and the Linnean Society of London.
