Biography
British botanist from Dadnor, Herefordshire who was active in the British Bryological Society and was the only female founding member of the Moss Exchange Club. She was the daughter of the bailiff for the Herefordshire estates of Guy's Hospital and her mother was the grand daughter of Spencer Perceval (1762-1812), the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated. Eleanora Armitage specialised botanically in bryophytes, the genus Iris and her local flora of Herefordshire. She collected and published on bryophytes of the Canary Islands. Not to be confused with the earlier Rev. Edward Armitage.
