Biography
German botanist who undertook an expedition to Cuba, Mexico and Arkansas in 1839. He died in Havana on 21 July 1864 on his way to collect further material in the Yucatán of Mexico. His surname is sometimes spelled 'Leybold' or 'Leyboldt' and the collector has often been confused with Friedrich Leybold (1827-1879) who collected mainly in Chile. Bryophtye material deposited at K (1882) was subsequently transferred to BM (c. 1961) under the terms of the Morton Agreement.
