Biography
American ecologist. David Riskind, director of the Natural Resources Program at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department since 1972, is an authority on vegetation and community restoration in Texas, the American Southwest, and northern Mexico. A native of the United States-Mexico frontera, Riskind has travelled widely in the region and is co-author of Backcountry Mexico, which is now in its 6th edition. He has also published widely in professional journals and popular magazines on natural landscapes, conservation biology, and ecological restoration. In 1977 he co-organized and co-edited the Symposium on the Biological Resources of the Chihuahuan Desert, United States and Mexico. Ageratina riskindii B.L. Turner, Oenothera riskindii W.L. Wagner and Salix riskindii M.C. Johnst. are all named after him.
