Biography
French agriculturalist and plant collector from Vesoul, Haute-Saône. He was appointed director of the royal plantations in Senegal (1825-1831) and collected in tropical West Africa until his death in October 1837. Material attributed to him from Madagascar is probably from another collector. Heudelot is commemorated by the genus Heudelotia A. Rich. in the Burseraceae and many species including Lissochilus heudelotii Rchb. f., Triplophyllum heudelotii Pic. Serm. and Gymnopteris heudelotii Bory ex Fée (= Bolbitis heudelotii (Bory ex Fée) Alston), the popular african water fern of aquarists.
