Biography
Physician and botanist who collected on Madeira, (1837-1838) and later at Gibraltar (1840-1841). He retired from medical practice in 1845. The genus Carlemannia Benth. (sometimes treated as belonging to the family Carlemanniaceae) was named in his honour. Material was bequeathed to BM with the herbarium of N.B. Ward (1869) and further specimens acquired with the herbarium of J. Miers (1879).
