Biography
British gardener from Hertford who was sent by the African Civilisation Society and the Horticultural Society of London to join the ill-fated Niger Expedition (1841-1842) during which most of the scientists and crew died. He survived and returned to work at the Horticultural Society's garden in Chiswick and later at Chislehurst. He is commemorated by the monotypic genus Ansellia Lindl. in the Orchidaceae.
