Biography
British missionary and naturalist from Kendal, Westmorland who studied theology at the Independent University of Lancashire and the North Congregational University. He travelled to Madagascar with the London Missionary Society and was briefly principal of the Theological College at Tananarive. A keen botanist and geologist, he collected some 12,000 specimens which he sent to K, including a great many new species. The genera Baronia Baker in the Anacardiaceae, Baroniella Costantin & Gaullaud in the Asclepiadaceae and Neobaronia Baker in the Fabaceae were named in his honour.
