Biography
Born Clara Maud Paget, daughter of the Regius Professor of physics at Cambridge University Sir George E. Paget, she married Hans Friedrich Gadow, a naturalised zoology lecturer originally from Prussia. Mrs Gadow received her husbands book In Northern Spain as a gift in 1897 and later she accompanied him on two trips to Mexico in the summers of 1902 and 1904. They travelled the country by freight train and collected botanical and zoological specimens which were sent to the British Museum. Hans Gadow published a popular account of their travels in 1908 which was entitled Through Southern Mexico, and as well as containing detailed accounts of the natural history of the areas they visited, it also describes their adventures including various incidents they experienced in remote areas of the country.
