Biography
French mycologist and curator of the Lloyd herbarium in Angers from 1989-1903 (ANG, now the Arboretum de la Maulévrie Herbiers de la Ville d'Angers). Although primarily a mycologist Gaillard also collected phanerogams in Venezuela in 1887. His specimens mainly come from around Puerto Ayucucho and areas along the Rio Orinoco as far as San Fernando de Atabapo. He also reached Colombia, where he collected around the Rio Guaviare. His main published contribution to mycology (other than co-authoring the list of his mycological harvest from Venezuela) was the 1892 monograph, Le genre Meliola. Anatomie, Morphologie et Systématique. Gaillard was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, and died at the early age of 45 in Angers. The genus Gaillardiella Patouillard was named after him.
