Biography
Polish merchant, naturalist and artist from Danzig, also cited as 'Breyn' or 'Breynius'. He did not collect in Africa but described and illustrated cultivated plants originating from the Cape collected as seed by Paul Hermann (1672). Breyne provided the first literary reference to European cultivation of several South African genera including Agapanthus (1680), Mesembryanthemum (1689) and Pelargonium (1678).
