Biography
French entomologist. Philibert Germain was professor of natural history and interim curator after Claude Gay at the Museo Nacional in Santiago until the appointment of Rodolpho Armando Phillipi in 1853. Although he resigned from his position because of his demotion and cut in salary, Germain continued to work for the museum as a collector and entomologist until 1910, a specialist in Coleoptera. His resignation pushed him towards travel and exploration of other countries. He collected and sold entomological and ornithological specimens, but also some plant specimens, from Chile, Brazil, and Bolivia until 1889 when he accepted a teaching position at a secondary school in Quillota.
