Biography
Dutch botanist at Utrecht University. Jansen-Jacobs is the executive director of the Flora of the Guianas and was curator of the Utrecht Herbarium from 2004 until her retirement in 2007. Born in Eindhoven, Marion Jansen-Jacobs trained at the University of Utrecht, gaining her master's degree in 1978. Since 1969 she has been employed at the National Herbarium in Utrecht, where she began working on the Flora of Suriname, making her first collections in the country with J.C. Lindeman in 1975. Her own number series began in 1984 with collections in French Guiana, while working on the Flora of the Guianas. For this flora Jansen-Jacobs contributed sections on Verbenaceae (1988), Tiliaceae and Dipterocarpaceae (1995). Since her initial collections she has built up more than 7,000 numbers, the most recent being collected in Suriname in 2008, all in support of the Flora of the Guianas. She has been executive editor of this flora project since 2000. She is still an active scientific guest at the herbarium in Utrecht following her retirement. Three species are named after her: Cordia marioniae Feuillet, Matelea jansen-jacobsiae Morillo and Ouratea jansen-jacobsiae Sastre.
