Biography
United States botanist. Eliane Meyer Norman was born in Lyon, France, of Alsatian parents. The Nazi Occupation compelled her family to emigrate to the United States in 1942. She received a BA from Hunter College in 1953, an MA from Washington University in 1955, and a PhD from Cornell University in 1962. Now a professor emerita, she taught at Rutgers University from 1963 to 1969 and then at Stetson University from 1970 to 1996. A contributor to Flora Neotropica, she has conducted fieldwork in Latin American countries since 1957, which has focused mainly on the Buddlejaceae and Asteridae families. She is also interested in Florida Annonaceae, the reproductive biology of rare Florida plants, and early plant collectors in Florida.
