Biography
Costa Rican forestry engineer. Nelson Zamora Villalobos studied at the School of Environmental Sciences of the National University of Costa Rica in Heredia. Following his graduation he remained at the university, becoming a lecturer and teaching botanical forestry and dendrology as well as working in their herbarium (JVR). At the same time he taught in the Department of Forestry Engineering at the Technological Institute of Costa Rica and worked as a botanist for the National Museum and Herbarium CR. Zamora has received a number of grants from international institutions in order to research the flora of Costa Rica, including the Botanic Gardens of Missouri and New York (U.S.A.), Kew (England), Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow (Scotland). From 1992 he has worked for the National Institute of Biodiversity (INBio) in Santo Domingo, Heredia, where he is curator of their herbarium (INB) and his research into arboreal species and the Fabaceae family has resulted in the publication of numerous scientific papers. Zamora has also published several books on the topics of arborescent flora in Costa Rica, trees of the Osa Peninsula and volume two of Árboles de Costa Rica.
