Biography
Dutch botanist. Marc Sosef is a professor of biosystematics at Wageningen University, with an expertise in the systematics of African species of Begoniaceae, Ochnaceae, and Poaceae and in Pleistocene rain forest refuges. Born in Delft in 1960, he graduated with distinction from Leiden University in 1985 and received his PhD from Wageningen University in 1994 for a thesis on the taxonomy, phylogeny, and biogeography of African Begonia species in relation to glacial rain forest refuges. For six years, 1992-1998, he was associate editor of PROSEA at Wageningen University, dealing with projects on timber trees. From 1999-2001, he served as a plant taxonomy expert for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CENAREST and as head of the Herbier National du Gabon. He is a co-editor of the Flore de Gabon and in 2006 was lead author of the Checklist of Gabonese Vascular Plants.
