Biography
British agrostologist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Steve Renvoize gained his BSc at the University of London (1969) and was awarded his MPhil by the University of Reading in 1977. He has provided floristic accounts for the Flora of Tropical East Africa, Flora Zambesiaca and floras of Aldabra, the Brazilian states Bahia and Paraná, Bolivia and Ecuador. He also provided the section on grass anatomy for the Flora of Australia project (2002) and co-authored Genera Graminum (1986), covering all the world’s grass genera. An update of the first edition of Genera Graminum is now underway at Kew, with additions to the original 651 genera and revisions being applied. Also being undertaken by Renvoize is a revision of the Gramineae (Poaceae) volume of Anatomy of the Monocotyledons. He has made monographic studies of the genera Brachiaria and Miscanthus and has expertise in temperate Asian bamboos.
