Biography
United States botanist. An authority on grasses, Dr John Reeder was born in Grand Ledge, Michigan, and earned his PhD from Harvard University. He was professor of botany and curator of the herbarium at Yale University until 1968 when he moved to the University of Wyoming as curator of the Rocky Mountain Herbarium and head of the Department of Botany. His wife, Charlotte Goodding Reeder, a student of Mulhenbergia, collaborated with him on research and collected with him on all of his excursions. The Reeders retired to Tucson in 1976 and have been based since then at the University of Arizona herbarium. The botanical species Mulhenbergia reedorum is dedicated to them.
