Biography
Canadian botanist. James Pringle, who was born in Danvers, Massachussets, is associate professor at McMaster University and the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario. A specialist in Gentianaceae, he has written treatments of the family for the floras of North America, MesoAmerica, and portions of South America. He also studies polyploidy in Solidago of the Great Lakes region, and is interested in Canadian botanical history. His Latin American collecting began as a student of A.J. Sharp, whom he accompanied to Oaxaca, Hidalgo, and Chiapas in 1962.
