Biography
Cuban botanist and mycologist who worked for many years in the U.S.A. at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. After receiving his PhD in botany from the University of Havana, Patricio Ponce de León began to work at the institution as a curator in the botanic gardens and as a professor, teaching both biology and general and cryptogamic botany.
In 1960, for political reasons, he moved to Illinois and the Field Museum, becoming a curator in the cryptogamic herbarium. His research spanned the fungi of Cuba, the Nymphaceae and the Polyporaceae and amongst his works lie revisions of many Lycoperdaceae genera and the Geastraceae family (1979). He died on 26th February 2010 in Miami Florida.
